Transcend Travel CPAP Meets FAA Compliance; Sleep Apnea Patients Can Now Use Transcend On Board an Aircraft

While Transcend is FAA compliant, sleep apnea patients traveling by air will need to have a copy of the letter of FAA compliance from Somnetics, which is available as a printable PDF on the Transcend website. Travelers will also want to carry a letter from their doctor certifying the need for positive air pressure treatment. And, it is advisable for patients to check with the airline’s medical services in advance to clarify procedures and in-flight policies.
A CPAP is a medical device and, under the Americans With Disabilities Act, is allowable as a carry-on in addition to the standard two carry-on-limit. In general, TSA officers are familiar with CPAP devices, but it is wise to place a CPAP in a bin prior to being sent through the X-ray and to identify it as a CPAP to the officers.
