Sugar Land, Texas (PRWEB) April 04, 2014
Dr. Samuel E. Cress, D.D.S., director of Sugar Land’s The Center for Craniofacial & Dental Sleep Medicine and Dr. Dave Singh, D.D.Sc, PhD, BDS, give patients a new and exciting option to Botox and fillers through use of a natural and non-invasive method.
It is reported that Botox was injected approximately 5.6 million times in 2012 with other facial injectable fillers following in a close second. Demand for these products is expected to continue, as treatments to minimize wrinkles and build facial volume become a mainstream necessity. However, the downside to these procedures is that the effects are not permanent and disappear in three to six months. In a recent case study noted in the December 2013 issue of Dentistry Today, Dr. Cress demonstrates an exciting, non-invasive option for long-term facial enhancement with the use of a new biometric oral appliance called the Daytime Nighttime Appliance (DNA appliance).
Dr. Cress proves through the use of the DNA oral appliance, not only did patients cosmetically benefit from facial structural changes, but they also improved their dental alignment, increased bone volume and achieved upper airway development and expansion. Both the increase in bone density and airway widening effects offer a new non- surgical alternative for patients seeking a way to permanently correct breathing problems associated with sleep apnea. Since Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) reportedly occurs in one in every 15 Americans, and five percent of Americans have undiagnosed sleep apnea, these findings give rise to new hope for patients looking for a CPAP-free and non-surgical option.
In this recent study, Cress concludes that this new protocol using the non-invasive patient management device, the DNA, not only enhances cosmetic dental procedures but benefits patients clinically by correcting additional underlying disease such as sleep apnea and malocclusions. He documents these corrections and finds that patient maxilla and mandibular skeletal growth changes are consistent with the spatial matrix hypothesis described in Moss’s 1997 paper found in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics demonstrating bone and tissue response to functional stimuli.
