NFL Retired Players Association Hold Successful Super Bowl Health Symposium With Pro Player Health Alliance

The 2015 Super Bowl Health Symposium hosted by Carl Eller and the Retired Players Association yesterday, January 27th, exceeded expectations. The event was held at Lo Lo’s Chicken and Waffles in Scottsdale, AZ and saw NFL legends such as Mike Haynes, Isiah Robertson, Roy Green, Carl Eller, Derek Kennard and current Giants linebacker Devon Kennard. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich was there as well to show his support for the former players. Dr. Archie Roberts, Founder of Living Heart Foundation, was stated as the biggest advocate for former players’ health. His HOPE Program, sponsored by the NFLPA, has conducted a series of health evaluations over the years and cardiovascular data collected has led to 12 published papers.
David Gergen, President of Pro Player Health Alliance, was named as the Sleep Director in the HOPE Program and has recently added sleep apnea testing to the health evaluations done by the Living Heart Foundation. Dr. Patricio Reyes, who is the chief neurologist for the US military and developed the first drug ever to help with the effects of Alzheimer’s, attended the event as well. His contributions to the players’ health and those around the world that have sleep disordered breathing will be studying the neurological effect untreated sleep apnea has on the brain and how the brain is affected post treatment.

About David Gergen
As President of Pro Player Health Alliance, he has been a nationally respected dental lab technician for over 25 years. He received the award for “The Finest Orthodontic Technician in the Country” given by Columbus Dental in 1986. He also has been appointed chair of the dental wing of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, a national interdisciplinary academy dedicated to sleep training and education.
