Somnetics International Inc. Responds to Consumer Questions about Fitting Transcend CPAP on the Head; New Transcend Fitting Guide Video Now Available
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 06, 2011
A common initial reaction upon seeing the Transcend travel CPAP is “You wear it on your head?”. As more consumers purchase the device, questions about how best to wear it have surfaced. To respond to consumer questions, Somnetics International Inc. has created a new fitting guide video that shows users what to expect when wearing Transcend and explains how to properly fit the device so it can be worn comfortably.
“Transcend is designed so that you adjust the device and the mask interface separately,” says Somnetics President Ralph Germscheid. “While the mask should be snug to your face, the device on your head should be allowed to move slightly. Memory foam cushions the device—which is lightweight, small and vibration-free—to fit more naturally on your head. When you lie back onto a pillow the device is hardly noticeable if it is fitted properly.”
Transcend is designed to ‘float’ on the head. This allows the weight of the device—which is less than 1 lb—to transfer to the pillow when you lie down and roll while sleeping. While it is a natural inclination to tightly strap the device and the mask interface, over tightening the headgear straps will prevent Transcend from moving in the manner in which it was designed. This ability of the device to move slightly also minimizes seal leaks.
“Getting used to Transcend is similar to adjusting to a new CPAP mask,” says Germscheid. “It may take a night or two to get used to Transcend. And, a proper fit goes a long way in making it comfortable.”
Mark S., a sleep apnea patient who owns a Transcend CPAP adds, “It’s hard to believe how comfortable something that sits on your head can really be. . . There is nothing wrong with having this on top of your head. You don’t wear it for beauty, that’s for sure. But in the morning when you wake up, it’s beautiful.” (To see Mark S. talking about what it feels like to wear Transcend, watch this video.)
In addition to the updated fitting guide video, Transcend comes with other guides including cleaning and compliance video guides and a Transcend Quick Guide.
Features taken into consideration by Somnetics engineers when designing a head-worn CPAP include its small size, light weight, and short hose. In addition, air-bearing blower technology is used to eliminate vibration and heat buildup from the motor.
For sleep apnea patients who like to, or need to, travel, Transcend overcomes hurdles associated with using a bulky, hassle-ridden traditional CPAP. Features that make Transcend the perfect travel CPAP include:
it is the smallest, most portable CPAP available
it weighs less than 1 lb, making it the lightest CPAP on the market
it uses low power consumption
battery pack and mobile power options allows for CPAP use in remote locations
a small, hygienic heat moisture exchanger for humidification replaces the water-filled humidification chamber
it’s universal AC power supply automatically converts power current outside the United States
it automatically compensates therapy pressure to altitudes of up to 8,000 feet
it is FAA compliant
Transcend is covered by health insurance, but insurance plans and guidelines differ by provider. For a full list of online and retail dealers selling Transcend, please visit the Transcend website.
